US judge pauses case against Trump under “unprecedented circumstance” after his win in US Elections

United States, November 09 (ANI): Donald Trump’s 2020 election subversion case was paused by a US judge on Friday due to “unprecedented circumstance”. This development took place immediately after Donald Trump’s historic win against Kamala Harris in US Election. Judge’s decision followed request from Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is prosecuting the criminal case. Trump was accused of conspiring to obstruct the collection and certification of votes following his 2020 defeat to Joe Biden. Smith had also charged Trump with unlawfully holding onto classified documents after his 1st term ended and obstructing US govt’s efforts to retrieve them. Trump’s alleged attempts to reverse Biden’s victory were said to be culminated in the deadly attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Last year, Trump pleaded not guilty of all the charges against him, said, “I did nothing wrong”. Following Trump’s win over his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, the two federal cases against him are now likely to end. Under a Justice Department policy dating back to 1970s, sitting president cannot be subject to criminal prosecution. And because of this, prosecutors argued the delay was necessary to give the government time to determine a path forward.
