American Airlines delays flights across the US due to technical error

Dec 25, 2024

Washington [US], December 25: A technical problem has caused a brief delay in American Airlines flights during the peak Christmas travel season.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on December 24 ordered American Airlines to ground its flights nationwide due to a technical problem and lifted the order an hour later, when the problem was resolved. The technical problem caused the departure of American Airlines flights to be delayed, but no flights were canceled. CBS News reported that flights resumed at 8:50 a.m. on December 24 (local time).
"A technical issue with a supplier that impacted flights has been resolved. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," American Airlines said in a statement. The airline said the issue affected systems necessary for the aircraft to depart.
The incident occurred during the peak travel season during the Christmas season . American Airlines' vice president said last week that this holiday season could be the busiest in the airline's history. Since December 18, the airline has served nearly 3.3 million passengers.
Meanwhile, US officials predict that tourism activities in the country will have more than 119 million people traveling at least 80 km from home by means of transport, from December 21 to New Year's Day 2025. US airlines also predict to receive more than 50 million passengers during the Christmas and New Year period.
Delays and delays are expected during peak travel season, but unexpected technical problems can add to passenger frustration. In July, a major technical failure caused thousands of flights to be delayed and canceled worldwide, according to CNN.
